Seems the rest of the climbing world is finally figuring out what
we have known for a long time as Josh Lowell's Rampage won the Best
Rockclimbing Film award at the Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival
. Congrats! |

2/13/00 Utah
Dave Graham recently returned from a two week trip to Salt Lake City,
where he sent some of Utah's hardest boulder problems. Dave had his sights
set on I Scream, Boone Speed's crimpfest 5.14c, but the weather did
not cooperate. Instead, Dave went to Little Cottonwood Canyon where he sent
Copperhead, and Shingles, both V10. Dave also visited Ibex
where he sent Left Ju (second ascent), V11, Bruce Lee, V10
(featured in the Movement video), and flashed Blue Flowers
and Ju. According to Dave, these two problems are the best V7s he
has ever done. Dave said the highlight of the trip was a new V4 that him
and Leo Houlding did, called The Few, the Proud. This problem is a
35 foot highball with the crux at 20 feet above a bush. After only a week
home, Dave and Luke Parady are off to Hueco to try and send Fred Nicole's
Slashface. Stay tuned. |
2/10/00 Northampton, MA
On Sunday February 6, 2000, the Northampton Athletic Club hosted
a toprope and bouldering competition. Climbers from most of the New England
states showed up to compete for over $1,000 in prizes donated by the Mountain
Goat and other local businesses. Every division saw inspiring performances,
but particularly impressive was Ed Daniels who at age 75 flashed every route
in the Men's Masters division for the win. He received a free 30 min professional
massage for his trouble. Unfortunately, the Men's expert boulder problem
proved a little too footwork intensive and was left unsent (it's the blue
one in the corner if you think you're up to it). Looks like maybe slabs should
be the next rage in New England home bouldering caves... At recent competitions,
people have been really friendly and should be congratulated for creating
a positive atmosphere. Results were as follows.
