Bouldering News

12/19/01 Pawtuckaway, NH

Home for the holidays, Dave Graham sent the project on the back side of the Swirley Boulder at the Blair Woods area of Pawtuckaway. The standing start to this project had been done previously at around V11. Dave's sit start , The Child of the Storm, adds six moves to the standing start and bumps the grade up to solid V13. Dave worked the problem for three days since he has been home, and had worked on it previously. Tim Kemple, who has worked the line, called it one of the coolest lines in the east, by far.

12/1/01 Northampton, MA

97 competitors and half again that many spectators crammed into the Northampton Athletic Club for NewEnglandBouldering.com's Cave Rave V. After DJ Rick House spun his last beat at just after 2:00 a.m., one thing was clear: the talent pool in the northeast is DEEP. Thanks to everyone who climbed, volunteered, and most importantly our sponsors including: newenglandbouldering.com and Cherry Rum Auto of Greenfield, MA whose generosity meant cash prizes of $150 for winning and cash down to third place. Sickle, Five-Ten, Boulderinggear.com, Misty Mountain Threadworks, Metolius, VooDoo, and The Mountain Goat. Look for the next installment of the Cave Rave on January 25, 2002.
